This marks the completion of initial formation, since those ordained to the Order of Deacon have professed their final vows in the Congregation. Our deacons are typically assigned to either a parish or college staffed by the Congregation of Holy Cross. Transitional deacons become fully involved in the ministries of Word, sacrament, and service. The program’s goals are to integrate recently-completed theological studies with pastoral experience; to grow spiritually and professionally in ministerial identity; and to gain a broader experience of pastoral ministry. Through
the experiences and learning that take place in the deacon’s
ministry, and in the communal life of his local Holy Cross community,
he grows as a Holy Cross religious and can move with more clarity
and confidence toward priestly ministry.
