Preparation
for Religious Life & Priesthood
Formation is a time of self-discovery, a time to explore and enrich
your relationship with God. It is a time to discover how God acts
within you. Throughout the years of formation, you come to understand
God's direction in your life and God's will so that you can appropriately
discern your vocation. The process takes several years and requires
careful reflection. During formation you also learn about all
aspects of religious life and priesthood in Holy Cross.
There are six essential elements to preparing a young man for
final vows and ordination:
Prayer:
Morning and evening prayer, daily Eucharist, and personal prayer
strengthen your relationship with God and your understanding of
your vocation. Periodic retreats help you to grow in the spiritual
life.
Community
Life: By being part of the life of a local community,
you learn of the distinct way we live as Holy Cross religious.
Community offers you the support, faith and prayers of fellow
religious.
Ministry:
Involvement in local ministries supports the discernment of your
call to the active, apostolic life of a Holy Cross religious.
It is a call to serve others and to find God in your service.
Spiritual Direction: Confidential meetings with a spiritual director
of your choice help you to more clearly perceive God's presence
and call.
Study:
Academic classes during candidacy and seminary and informal classes
in the Novitiate, stimulate the mind and stir the soul, aiding
your spiritual growth, vocational discernment and preparations
for professional ministry in the Church.
Formation
Meetings: Regular group meetings with the formation
staff assist you to learn more about the Congregation of Holy
Cross and to discuss formation and discernment issues with peers.
Periodic individual meetings with your formation director, as
well as regular evaluations from the formation staff, offer helpful
feedback on your progress.
